Hi, I’m Yanlin!

Welcome to My Adventurous Wings! Here are some quick facts about me, so we are no longer strangers!

  • I’m a happy servant to two cat masters: Jun and Fei (3 years old)!
  • A self-proclaimed foodie. I’m always up to trying new food & cuisine. I have probably taken enough food photos to start a food blog…
  • One route of my US domestic flights will always be delayed or cancelled (am I jinxed?) But that’s okay, because it’s the perfect excuse to start conversations with other people.
  • Autumn is my favorite season. Why? Warmish weathers, beautiful foliage, pumpkin pie, shopping seasons, and birthdays. Too many to list.

Now, hello again, new friend!

My Story

A plane ride from China to US. This was my introduction to flying. Being a 6 year old high up in the sky, the clouds surrounding the plane fascinated me. Stepping down on foreign soil after 19+ hours, I officially started my life as an immigrant.

Growing up, travel was never an option. Sure, I had gone back to China three times to visit relatives. But family vacations to destination popular? Winter getaways at some sunny beach down south? What about even a short weekend trip? Those don’t exist.

My parents were constantly working. I was a latchkey kid (best excuse to eat ramen!). We were your minimum wage family. While friends around me shared about their latest family trips, all I can say was “That sounds fun! I played monopoly with the little ones”

Trips, especially a family trip, means $ and time. No money. But money could be saved up. Time? For a blue collar family, time was the hardest problem to solve.

  • Weekends? Kids. No parents.
  • Holidays? Still kids. Parents nope (extra shifts)
  • Cheap cruises and flights? YES parents! But no kids (school….ARGH!!)

Solution? Ditch the parents (& too young to tag along siblings). Operation Go Alone.

Luckily, I started working part-time at 16. Which means… one year of savings for my first taste of adventure at 17!!

My wanderlust is STRONG. Maybe from all those years of listening to other people’s stories. Maybe it’s influenced by all the beautiful sceneries on screen.

That’s why it is time for my own stories. My adventures.

So… what is My Adventurous Wings about?

We live in an amazing world filled with diversity, culture, adventures, and many more. However, many people are still stuck living a routine. Whether it is low budget, lack of time, or simply no clue where to start. My Adventurous Wings aims to be an inspiration and guide to those who wish to live life more adventurously.

It will be a collection of my various travel tales, budgets and itineraries, and tips & tricks I’ve learned on the road. I wish my experiences will be the last push that another person needs. To realize life doesn’t need to be mundane, travel isn’t just a dream.

Step out of your comfort zone. Try out new food and activities. Create unforgettable memories. And learn more about the world you live in while having fun.

Ever since my first adventure at 17, I have gone on many more trips. I’ve traveled alone as a solo female traveler, been appointed the “tour guide/planner” for multiple big family trips, or simply one of a few in weekend getaways.

No matter your travel style, My Adventurous Wings is here to fuel your wanderlust and help you accomplish your travel goals.

The world is vast and exciting. What are you waiting for? Spread your wings and live the life you deserve!
